Five Elements and Their Interaction
Saturday, December 20, 2008There are three unique reaction bases on the interaction relation of each element with each other. Production cycle, controlling cycle, and the wakening cycle.
During this Production cycle, the relationship is such that the element support and strengthen each other. In this relationship, you can see that it is supportive, giving, attractive, pleasant and generous, this cycle produce harmony and is in constant movement. For example, the water Element nourishes the Wood Element. Wood Element feed the Fire Element. From the Fire Element, Earth Element is produce. Within the Earth Element, Metal Element is harvest. Metal Element is use to hold the Water Element.
Then there is the Control cycle. The Control cycle bring order and direction. It is always desirable to have appropriate controlling Element in nature. However over-control brings imbalance, hatred, anger and frustration. From the view of the Five Elements, this controlling intension, manage, manipulate, restrain and influence each other. For example, Water Element controls the Fire Element. Fire Element control the Metal Element. Metal Element control Wood Element. Wood Element control Earth Element and Earth Element control Water Element.
The Weakening cycle is introduced when certain Element strength exceeded and is causing a great imbalance. The logic of a Weakening cycle is such that when an Element is use to create another element, it is weaken in the process of producing. The cycle is the reverse of the Production cycle. For example when you dig metal from the earth, you weaken the earth. Another example, to produce fire, you need to burn wood thus the wood is getting smaller and smaller to produce bigger fire. The relationship of the Element goes like this: Metal Element weakens the Earth Element, Earth Element weakens the Fire Element, Fire Element weakens the Wood Element, Wood Element weakens the Water Element and finally the Water Element weakens the Metal Element.
There is no good or bad cycle. The Producing cycle might look good compare to the Controlling cycle or the Weakening cycle but remember too much of a good thing would bring harm. For example, too much a good food would cause an upset stomach and too leaner of discipline would lead to a spoil brat. The main purpose of these three cycles is to adjust to each other and bring harmony.
