Yin and Yang

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Yin and Yang is the opposite of each other. Yin is the dark, feminine, receptive principle. Yang is the light, masculine and active principle. Together Yin and Yang flow endlessly into each other, thus, creating a balance.

Yin and Yang are in constant state of flux. Steadily flowing into each other, creating... supporting... destroying... creating again. For example, because of the existence of dark then light has a meaning. Likewise for high and low, and any other opposite comparison.

To the Western thought, Yin and Yang is often interpreted as conflicting opposite that is constantly fighting each other. In actual fact that is not so. You can think of Yin and Yang as the day and night. One comes after the other. Not conflicting but of opposite nature to each other.

Yin and Yang is the natural order of the universe. Forever repeating endlessly. The day and night, the four seasons, the coming and going of tide are some of the example.

Yin and Yang is about balance. There is a Yang in Yin and a Yin in Yang. Both must exist together. If any one is separated, death occurs.
